La ciudad está ubicada en el noreste del estado de Sonora, México y se localiza en el paralelo 31°17’de latitud norte y a los 109°33′ de longitud al oeste del meridiano de Greenwich, a una altura de 1,219 metros sobre el nivel del mar.

El clima predominante en el municipio es de tipo templado, la temperatura media mensual máxima es de 32.3°C en los meses de junio y julio y la media mensual mínima es de 5.4°C en los meses de diciembre y enero; la temperatura media anual es de 17°C; las lluvias se presentan los meses de julio, agosto y septiembre con una precipitación media anual de 334.6 milímetros; hay deshielos del norte en los meses de diciembre y febrero.

Dentro de los servicios que ofrece la ciudad, se encuentra, servicios de hospedaje a través de infraestructura hotelera, Red Eléctrica, Servicios de Comunicación/Telecomunicación, Red de Drenaje y Agua Potable al igual que áreas de esparcimiento.

Incentivos Fiscales para atracción de Inversiones / Tax Incentives to Attract Investments.
Se otorgan incentivos y/o estímulos fiscales a las empresas que generan inversión y empleos permanentes en el Municipio, en actividades industriales, comerciales y/o de servicios alineados a las vocaciones productivas de Agua Prieta. Estos se encuentran dentro de su Ley de Ingresos y Presupuesto de Ingresos del Municipio en su artículo 15.
Fiscal incentives and/or stimuli are grant to companies that generate investment and permanent jobs in the Municipality, in industrial, commercial and/or service activities aligned with the productive vocations of Agua Prieta. These are found within its Income Law and Municipal Income Budget in its article 15.
Parques y Naves Industriales/ Parks and Industrial Buildings
La ciudad cuenta con tres parques Industriales con naves industriales que van desde 1,600 mts ² hasta 25,600 mts ² y donde se encuentra ya operando empresas.

Instituciones Educativas / Educational institutions
En la ciudad, se cuenta con seis escuelas de educación media superior y cuatro escuelas de educación superior las cuales en total superan cada año los dos cientos egresados.

Vías de Comunicación / Communication Paths
Las vías de acceso a la ciudad de Agua Prieta son la carretera México 2 la cual cruza de este a oeste el norte de México y la carretera interestatal 17, la cual inicia en Agua Prieta, Sonora y va de norte a sur. Al norte se encuentra el cruce fronterizo hacia Estados Unidos de Norte América.

El salario mínimo en la ciudad corresponde al de Frontera Norte y en el año actual estará vigente por $419.88 pesos hasta el 31 de Diciembre.
La ciudad cuenta con siete (7) sucursales de la banca comercial; Santander, BBVA Bancomer, Banamex, BanCoppel, Banorte, Banco Azteca y HSBC.
En la actualidad se encuentran instaladas 20 Industrias Maquiladoras que generan mas de 10 mil empleos.
Con relación a Comercios, en todos sus giros se cuenta con información de que superan los mil establecimientos.
El Producto Interno Bruto de la ciudad es de $11,255 dólares.

En conclusión; Agua Prieta cuenta con todo lo necesario para desarrollar cualquier actividad económica. Una ciudad con pasado, presente y un futuro, la cual contara pronto con un segundo puerto fronterizo, en pro de mejorar las actividades de importación y exportación y la conclusión de carretera de cuatro carriles Agua Prieta-Cananea.
In conclusion; Agua Prieta has everything necessary to develop any economic activity. A city with a past, present and a future, which will soon have a second border port, in order to improve import and export activities and the conclusion of the four-lane Agua Prieta-Cananea highway.
